I was thinking about building an advaced firewall to work around the 50Gb upload volume limit.

My plans involved, buiing new hardware, building a case able to fit 2 computers so the total would fit in a closet, and doing some home renovation to accomodate for the extra wireing and all that stuff.

Now.... Maarten pointed out to me why i just don't use virtualization and run my server and my advanced firewall on the same machine, that way the network throughput problems i anticipated will be reduced to a minimum + i only need to buy 1 high performance network card + a whole lot less wiring, and i don't need to build my own servercase because i already have a standard one.....

so for those interested.... the setup will be:

my standard ubuntu server with VMware2 server..... running pfSence (witch is a variation of m0nowall but with more advanced options, for example multiple uplink)
what will this change:.... for the outside world not much..... FTP traffic (the thing that eats away at my volume limit)... will be restriced to the secondary route

and for internal traffic autobalancing will be used making it always take the fastest route
